As a student, you never expect the government to state that you cannot study anymore. And yet, exactly that happened. In January 2018, the decision stating that those claiming asylum are no longer granted temporary admission, but instead they are given what is called an immigration bail, was made. This meant that asylum seekers could not study. So many of these unfair cases often go unseen, with only those who have lawyers and connections being able to make their voices heard.
After STAR exposed errors by approaching the Home Office and describing exactly what the asylum seekers were going through, the Home Office issued new guidance to confirm that asylum seekers should not be given Immigration Bail conditions which state "you cannot study”.
